A Person?

The Abortion "issue" in Canada (presently no rules governing) is entirely about whether or not a foetus (child in utero) is distinctly a human being - a Person - as defined by the UN Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.

If the foetus is determined to be a Person, then it becomes a Human Rights issue, not just a Women's Rights issue. The Canadian Charter, and any associated laws, would then need to be amended (with reference to a woman's "security of person"), which is one of the central legal issues that has created the legal "limbo" we are presently experiencing.

In other words ... every Canadian deserves, as a guaranteed right, "security of person". I don't think that it would be outrageous to presume that the threat of death would effect a person's "security of person".

Most of the arguments regarding the right of a woman to her own body would be moot in relationship to the human being she is carrying in her womb, and interestingly enough, providing "life support" to.

I think the fact that there is no real challenge to "put things right" by the government and related legal bodies is purely a political issue (with moral implications).

Fear is a powerful weapon with unreasonable results.

I really like your last statement in the blog: "Fear is a powerful weapon with unreasonable results." There is nothing to fear but fear itself!

You've summed it up pretty neatly here.

I can't believe the majority of Canadians would support the status quo if they were aware of the facts. Your suggested link supports this: many Canadians don't know what's happening in their own country.

We need to raise awareness to the point where politicians will be afraid not to act...to the point where all Canadians have an opinion about this, and it becomes a burning issue, a fire begging to be extinguished.
