His Name

Ever wonder how common it is for people to misuse God's name in their day to day speech, their curses, their oaths, their gutter vernacular, their "Internet speak", their jokes? How easy it seems for the name of Jesus to be cursed misused, reviled. How unusual it seems, if there were perhaps an accounting (and there will be), for the name of Jesus to be more commonly elevated and revered in day to day speech. Perhaps that would seem even unusual to most, perhaps even fanatical?

What's interesting and noteworthy I think is that I have never heard anyone misuse any other "god's" name in their vernacular, in their curses. Ever hear "Vishnu" or "Buddha" or "Mohammed" or "Allah" or "Krishna" used as a curse? There is a very good chance that if that were so, the defenders of those religions would react unfavourably (some even quite violently) if they were aware of the misuse. Perhaps that's why it's so unusual? Fear of man? What about fear of God?

So much for "respect" in this society of "sensitivity" and "tolerance". What a farce! As Franky Schaeffer so aptly once wrote: "Neutrality is a Myth".

"You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name." Deuteronomy 5:11

In the name of Jesus people are ...

  • saved
  • healed
  • delivered of evil
  • blessed
  • baptized into God's family
  • reconciled to God

"Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name." Hebrews 13:15

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17

"Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:9-11

i think "God slander" is so prominently against Christianity and Judaism in North America because of the majority following of those faiths. a quick google reveals that other countries/faiths experience the same issues too:
Hindu's

Buddhism

But I agree with your point. I think the natural tendency of Christians to be passive when dealing with offense is really to blame.
